22nd September

Field trip

1 – Gonçalo area – Visit to the Vela and Seixo Amarelo montebrasite – zinnwaldite pegmatites and strongly differentiated pegmatites of the LCT family bearing lepidolite, petalite, tourmaline, both intruded in sin to late-Variscan granites.

2 – Sátão region – Visit to the feldspar mine of Senhora de Assunção – mixed LCT/NYF beryl – phosphate pegmatite, in situ fractionated from a porphyritic late-Variscan granite.

3 – Vila Nova de Paiva region – Visit to Queiriga or Lagares do Estanho, a former tin-tungsten mine recently reestablished as a feldspar mine, which has since been appreciated for classification as a mining heritage site. The pegmatite, which was exploited, corresponds to a major sill body of LCT family, with petalite.
